FAQ
Yes, it is safe.
Windows Defender SmartScreen shows this warning because the BebraLand Launcher is not signed with a paid code-signing certificate. These certificates cost a lot of money, and since BebraLand is a private community project, we don’t use them yet.
You can always check the launcher’s source code yourself — it’s fully open-source and available here:
https://github.com/BebraLand/BebraLand-Launcher
To continue:
-
Click “More info”
-
Click “Run anyway”
After that the launcher will open normally.
BebraLand Launcher contains no viruses, no malware, and no hidden processes. Everything is public and transparent.
Short answer: The launcher is 100% safe. Windows shows this warning because we don't have a code signing certificate (they cost $300-500/year 😅).
Is it really safe?
Yes! Here's why you can trust it:
✅ Open source — All code is publicly available on GitHub: github.com/BebraLand/BebraLand-Launcher
✅ No malware — You or anyone technical can review the code yourself
✅ Used by our entire community — Everyone on BebraLand uses the same launcher
✅ No telemetry or tracking — We don't collect any data from your PC
Why doesn't Windows trust it by default?
Windows Defender SmartScreen flags any executable from an "Unknown publisher." To become a "known publisher," we'd need to buy a code signing certificate that costs $300-500 per year 💸 — which is a lot for a small community server.
Big software companies pay for these certificates, but for a free launcher used by friends, it's not worth it (yet!).
How to run the launcher
When you see the Windows warning:
- Click "More info"
- Click "Run anyway"
That's it! You only need to do this once.
Still worried?
- Check the code yourself: github.com/BebraLand/BebraLand-Launcher
- Ask in our Discord — we're happy to explain anything!
- Scan the file with your own antivirus (it'll come back clean)
Yes, the BebraLand Launcher is 100% safe.
You are seeing this message because our application does not have a "Digital Signature" certificate from Microsoft. As a free community project, we cannot justify the high annual cost of these certificates.
We value transparency: Because we don't have a certificate, we made the entire source code of our launcher open to the public. You can inspect exactly how it works on our GitHub here: https://github.com/BebraLand/BebraLand-Launcher
How to launch the app:
- When the blue window appears, click the text that says More info.
- A new button will appear at the bottom. Click Run anyway.
